Review and giveaway: kids toothbrush and toothpaste

This month we were asked to do a family review of a kids’ toothbrush and toothpaste that you can customize with stickers:
ARM & HAMMER® Spinbrush® MY WAY!™ battery-powered toothbrush and Orajel® MY WAY!™ Kids Toothpaste. I have to tell you that Ro and Ree were pretty excited for this review, especially because they had spotted these toothbrushes in the grocery store just last week and begged me to buy them (kudos to the marketing folks).
DSC_4095LR

Toothbrushes: The customization concept is a great one for kids, especially siblings, and here’s why: it’s FUN to use the waterproof stickers to decorate your own stuff, and (this one makes me stand up and cheer) the custom decorations mean that no more fighting takes place over toothbrushes. You think I’m kidding? About once a month in this house Ro and Ree get their toothbrushes mixed up, lay claim to the same one, and fight (loudly -- with much dramatics and even more tears).

Well now the girls have tried out Spinbrush toothbrushes and truly enjoyed decorating them and using them. The neat spinning technology makes the toothbrushes “funner” (their word) to brush with, so they brush WAY longer and do a much more thorough job. Always a plus in this house, where we have one enthusiastic brusher and one extremely haphazard one.
DSC_4104LRDSC_4110LRDSC_4123LR

Toothpaste: Now for the Orajel® MY WAY!™ Kids Toothpaste. We give this one a mixed review. The sticker customization was creative and fun, and the girls appreciated having their own toothpaste containers that couldn’t get mixed up (see aforementioned bathroom fights), but the mechanisms didn’t work well for us. We got two tubes of toothpaste to review, and the push button on one tube was inoperable straight out of the box (we never got any toothpaste to come out) and the working one is hard for our kids to operate (they don’t have the finger strength to easily get enough toothpaste out). The fruity flavor got huge, enthusiastic thumbs-up from both girls, and they prefer it over the brand we were using.

When we to Costco to shop and come with with the food in great big boxes while I'm unloading and putting stuff away I give my boys makers and a box for each. They will sit for a long time very happily IN the boxes while they color and decorate them. My 2 year old spend 2 hours and 15 minutes in he box coloring the first time we did! And then when they get tired of coloring we cut door into the boxes and call them cars :)

In the spring and fall our gardens are called "Mud Gardens" and the girls are allowed to play "garden" as much they want. Water, mud, tools...it's insanely messy, but oh so much fun.

And OH YES, we have bathroom drama. Lots of it.

My toddler loves anything with water.....playing in the hose, "painting" with paintbrushes, spraying with a squirt bottle, dumping buckets over, washing the car, sponge cleaning the driveway....the list goes on.....

Great giveaway. (We have those brushes, and I love how my girls now have their names on each brush. ZERO arguments.)

As for creativity, my girls (3 and 5) LOVE making necklaces with beads, Cheerios, you name it. Then they pass them out to friends the day after, making them very popular.

We make tutus by just cutting ribbon to fit my daughters waist and then tying strips of tulle onto the ribbon with simple knots...have even done it with several girls at once (slightly stressful! :) )All the girls were happy to bring their own tutu home...and Michael's often has the rolls of tulle on sale for nothing! :)

We have big plans for a Pirate Day.
We will make pirate hats & eye patches. the Boy will decorate a pirate chest & I get to hide it, then make a map so he can find it. We will end it with a bang with a Pirate Lunch. (to be determined by the Boy at a later date.

My daughter loves making paper bag puppets. She will make anything into a puppet, so we go through lots of bags, construction paper, stickers and gems.

I love family nights! I have heard of families picking a theme, and using dinner and a game/activity to go along with it! It can be really simple and thrown together, which I think makes it more do-able! I love rainbow night where each family member wears clothes with each article a different color (like a rainbow) and dinner is all colorful, such as scrambled eggs different colors and milk tinted also to make each glass a different color, fruit of all colors. The activity would then be to create paper rainbows and search around the house for a hidden pot of gold!

my default go-to activity is brick painting. I purchase bricks at my local home improvement and when we've just run out of things to do , I'll whip out some bricks and some latex paint and let the kids at em'. I purchased an intense rainbow of colors in latex paint at my local paint store from their pre-mix sample bin. I'm working on lining the entire yard with their creations.. fun and kitchy ( which is so me) and also keeps the bark chips from mixing with the grass.

for spring break because we were going anywhere my kids went to Hawaii, Ireland, Camping and more all from our house. We dressed up, ate food from that area, had passports, plane tickets, inflight movies, etc. Such a hit we are doing it this summer going some place new for one day a week.

On days when we can't be outside and my toddler wants to play in the sand, I got him a small wading pool and and put some rice or beans in a storage container with measuring cups and he plays in that. The wading pool keeps most everything contained and if any does spill out big beans are easy to pick up and rice is easy to vacuum up!

Barbara said...

These toothbrushes look great! I know when my twins are a little older we will be getting them!

A few weeks ago I purchased a small wading pool and a bag of ball pit balls. Instant ball pit!! The girls played in it for over two hours with out getting out.

Our most recent 'crafty' thing was also practical- we decorated paper plates and duct taped them to paint stir sticks (you can usually get free or cheap at hardware store) and made our own 'fans'.

Megan said...

The most creative thing we did lately was do hop scotch outside..using your idea:)

sara said...

My 5 year old son actually came up with his latest favorite "crafty" project - every few days he rummages through our recycling container and picks out randoms things like empty juice bottles and egg cartons. Then, he uses his crazy imagination and tape, markers, glue, stickers, pipe cleaners, etc. to build and create. It keeps him occupied not just while building, but then he spends hours playing with whatever he built. Very fun to see what he comes up with to make each time.

sweetcoalminer said...

We cut out pictures (for the 3yo) and letters (for the 5yo) from magazines and they glue them onto colored paper as a collage. They hang them up in their room to admire afterwards.

We have my 2 year old triplets decorate card stock paper with markers, crayons, stickers, and finger paint. Then we turn them into note cards (currently we are working on making Thank You notes for the presents they got for their birthday). Everyone loves them and they are so much cheaper than buying cards at the store!
The toothbrushes look like they will be a must around here in a few years!

Love the toothbrushes. I think we are going to have to get a couple of those!

A favorite, cheap craft-painting the sidewalk, porch or house with a bucket of water and a foam or regular paint brush. The water eventually dries so you don't make a mess, but the kids still have fun. A good way to explain evaporation too!

My kids often get brooms to play with. It keeps them busier than a toy. Those brooms can be a spaceship, horse or firemans truck.

Our latest creative activity is to use either paint chips or scrapbook paper and cut them into small squares and shapes. The kids then stick these onto a canvas in whatever design they'd like. Thanks!

We do lots of creative stuff (I hope & think). One of my favorite things to do is to give the girls a small canvas (I draw a general outline) and have them paint or chalk in their self-portrait at each birthday. It's so impressive and utterly adorable.

Oh those brushes lool like they might do the trick for my little guy. His cleft lip/palate makes him more suceptable to tooth decay and I am always a wreck that he is missing half his teeth (strong willed toddler doesn't want Mommy's help when brushing). :)

Anyway, I like making woven baskets w/ kids. You can use a plastic strawberry basket from the farmer's market as the base. Kids can go on a nature hunt and use long grasses, pliable twigs, and leaves to weave into the waffle basket or you can use household ribbons, yarn, string, pipe cleaners, etc. They can be done up in holiday colors or made as gift baskets.

I love to let the children help with baking so that they can put their creative spin on it.

My daughter is 4 and just learning to brush her teeth herself. This would make it fun to learn and she absolutely loves stickers. Stickers are on everything we own I think :)

My littles love helping me with the groceries. I line individual items (like a box of cereal ect..) in the back of the car and they help bring in the groceries. It usally takes about ten trips but they are so happy to help.

My girls love to decorate jars with tissue paper torn into small pieces and glued on with white glue. They look like stained glass.

I've received coupons on these products but didn't pay much attention to it. Now I will. At the dentist when I take my virtual triplets I always tell them "Please make sure the toothbrushes are a different color". If we used these they would know themselves which one is which and might make it more fun brushing b/c they sure do hate to do it.

Our latest craft was making hats from Mcdonald's happy meals. Gotta do something with the box, right?

Cooking! This week we are going to make frozen bananas dipped in chocolate and toppings like sprinkles, granola, and crushed Graham crackers. A great, almost healthy, and cool treat!

On those long car rides, I like to give my 5 year old son window markers to decorate his window with. Super fun for him and he has even been known to put a mustache on the person parked next to us **grin**

A neat way to do some stained "glass" is to either have some parchment/tracing/wax paper. Then tear or cut up colored tissue paper into different sized shapes. Pour some glue out, "paint" a thin layer of glue on the parchement/tracing/wax paper then lay down different sheets of colored tissue paper (press down with some wax paper or you can leave it textured). Set it out to dry. Punch a hole on top, string it and hang by the window or elsewhere and let the light shine through it.

Or you could take a large(r) sheet of black paper, cut our shapes or a border (various boxes) using an xacto knife. Lay it down on top of waxed paper, then glue colored tissue on the border for a stained glass effect.
Fun times.

We have been making cards and 'posters' using different colors of card stock and scrapbook paper. I give my 5yro some crazy scrapbook scissors and a glue stick he stays busy!

My 5 yr old loves to write her own books- she draws the pictures (or sometimes uses stickers or cuts and pastes from magazines/catalogs - she can cut photos out for an hour while mama reads her blogs ;) and then dictates the story to me. We staple it all together and then she reads them over and over. Often the plots veer off into strange directions, but that's ok, it's all fun! Thanks for the chance to win :) allknowingjen@yahoo.com

I get big poster paper and tell Liz to lay down while I trace her. After I am done I tell her to draw herself and what she see hersel doing as a grown up. Its so fun to watch because she has such a fun imagination. One day she is a princess, the next a ballerina.

when my kids were small and really into the Wizard of Oz they dressed in character, we must have watched that movie a zillion times, my daughter actually wanted me to change her name to Dorothy she loved it so much, she wore red shoes & carried her basket with a "toto" in it everywhere, then my son came a few years later and he basically did the same thing and had to be almost every character (except dorothy) all the way to the tin man, that was fun getting different things to use for the costume, I remember his oil thingy used for his head and wearing tin foil too I have the pictures from those days and we laugh about it now, the funny thing is they both still love the movie and arent not children anymore
Thanks for the great giveaway

My girls love to play movie director and they use anything and everything in the house to make sets, dress up and then use an OLD VHS recorder to make movies for the rest of us. It is a blast to see what they come up with and they use so many different crafts doing it that it can keep them busy for days!!

My kids are older and are so absorbed by sports and other activities I no longer need to be creative
When they were younger we did lots of exciting stuff
when really young they liked so many things we always found a way to stay entertained
One of their favorites was scavenger hunts we did hiding items or by words when driving for example start with letter A how many signs do you see that have A or fast foods or license plates
In the home their are tons of items you throw away that could be turned into a craft

Thank you so very much for giving me a chance to be a winner
Thank you for all your time, effort and hard work

To kick off the summer, we throw a "kid car wash", run by my 4 yr old son. We give him a bucket filled with soapy water and some sponges, cleaning brushes and rags. He then washes all his bikes in the best car wash fashion. Not only does he have a blast running his own carwash. He also cleans the dirt/dust off all his play toys from being stored in the winter. Win-win! :)
