This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Wonder®.
The folks at Wonder asked us to do a taste test between three good sources of calcium: Wonder® bread, spinach, and red beans. You know how much we like taste tests around here, so we agreed in a heart beat.
On the day of the test, I arranged some cute pottery plates and bowls and offered the girls cooked spinach (with a little butter and seasoning), red beans, and a slice of Wonder bread and asked them to taste everything.
The Official Results:
The girls preferred the Wonder bread hands down. I figured they might turn up their noses at the spinach, but was kind of surprised that my little legume-lovers weren't even tempted by the red beans. Interesting... It was also interesting to find out that Wonder bread has some seriously pumped up calcium levels—two slices have as much calcium as a glass of milk. I always figured that bread had a bunch of nutrients and carbs and all that, but never checked to see that some brands had calcium too (seriously, when I'm in the grocery store with the twinados, my only goal is to get in and out as fast as humanly possible and without injury to ourselves or innocent bystanders, there is no time for label reading). Just for kicks, I compared the Wonder bread against our family's standby bread, and a slice of Wonder has 15% of your daily calcium, while our old fave has 4%. Oh.
The Bottom Line:
The kids loved it, and I like that I can give it instead of milk on days when their sensitive little stomachs are just not tolerating dairy products (yes we have gastro issues galore in this house). The adults preferred the Wonder bread over the spinach and red beans, but didn't prefer it over our family's standby bread.
Areas for Improvement:
I think the Wonder bread is great for kids, but how about a hearty, seedy version that adults would go for? I'm a sucker for those local bakery loafs that are so heavy and have so many seeds that they pop off while you're trying to butter them. Mmmmmm, that's what I'm always trying to get close to with my grocery-store bread.

haha they know what they are talking about
very smart girls
Peanut butter and jelly!
peanut butter and banana
Definitely a BLT, or wait a minute maybe a PBJ. Aren't all sandwiches good on Wonderbread?
Toasted bread with ham & melted cheese. Yum!
NOthing better than a good ol' PB&J!

I wish I could get my girl to eat spinach. My fave as a kid was grilled peanut butter sandwiches. Yum....warm and melted peanut butter. Trish
I love to put homemade pimento chees and a slice of tomato on my Wonder Bread...or yummy peanut butter and banana...delish.
Emiy
ok, some people might say this is really gross, but when we were little we used to eat peanut butter and pickle sandwiches on good old wonder bread! yum-o!
I am a salami gal.
yummm, pb&J
What a huge giveaway!
I am a sucker for grilled cheese sandwiches on Wonder. Lightly spread mayo (yup, mayo) on both sides of the bread. Use 1.5 slices of American cheese because that is what is needed to cover every inch of bread. Lightly sprinkle with pepper and grill in a pan with a pat of butter. I'm hungry!
It has to be grilled cheese-with the cheese slices wrapped in plastic.
My favorite sandwich with Wonder bread is Grilled pimento cheese, served with tomato soup
Miracle Whip, Lots of Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and Swiss Cheese - please!
THANKS for the opportunity to win!
PB&J or Grilled Cheese, or PB&Nutella.
I have to admit, my son takes PB&J on Wonderbread EVERY day to school! But, anything goes on that bread.
I like a salami and provolone sandwich with a little bit of mustard!
we ONLY used wonder bread growing up, especially overseas (lived in Bangladesh and Iran, and friends from the base would get it for us, dad was not military). i hated PB & J as a kid, so it was always, hands down, bologna and mustard for me. i know, right?!
Our house is a toasted peanut butter and banana sandwich kind of crew. My 2 year old loves when the bread is fresh and smells great right out of the bag!

that is the cutest video! would love to be entered I have heard our peanut loves bread and he will hopefully be home soon. My favorite sandwich is grilled cheese!
Just plain old PB and J is awesome on wonder bread.
kelhorn@umich.edu
Gotta go with peanut butter & jelly!
oh the fluffer-nutter is the fav here in our house my middle son will eat no other! fun review, i had a sneaking hunch that wonder would win over spinich!
That's neat. We always avoided wonder bread, thinking it's gotta be the worst... you know white bread and all...
Wonder Bread is the BEST bread for making grilled cheese sandwiches with plain old plastic wrapped American cheese!
PB&J of course!
Love the taste testing video. If you want truth, ask a child!
My favorite sandwich is a b.l.t. with homegrown tomatoes!
Hmmm...well, BLT with fresh tomatoes in the summertime. I also like Virginia baked ham and farmer's cheese.
Elisa
Hmm, don't gag. When I was a kid, I loved Mayo sandwiches on Wonder Bread! Soft and salty! YUM!
Any kind of sandwich is good around here.
Lately we've been digging good ol' tuna salad sandwiches.
Mmmmmmm.
Especially in the fall, love grilled cheese! Lin
Favorite of all time--Good ole Wonder Bread(white) grilled cheese(yellow American)sandwich!! Hands down!!!!
My favorite, as a child, was Peanut butter and banana sandwich on good old wonderbread.
Jodi
purehrt555(at)yahoo(dot)Com
Mmmm...I'd have to say grilled cheese or PB&J with bananas. Yummy!
I loved (still do!) peanut butter and honey sandwiches on Wonderbread.
PBJ or PB Fluff, a fluffernutter.
Fluffernutters are the best on Wonderbread. Thanks for the chance to win. My daughter would eat bread for every meal if we let her. :)
Hmmm....has to be grilled cheese for me. Now, my kids? That's a different question, probably with 6 different answers. :)
PB&J is the best sandwich on Wonder bread!!
My favorite sandiwch as a child was grape jelly, Jif peanut butter, and Lay potato chips on yummy white Wonder bread! MMMMM
Good old grilled cheese.

My mom makes a delicious roast beef/swiss cheese sandwich (with horseradish mayo) that I've loved since I was a kid!
Nutella and fluff. I'm not even sure if it counts as a true lunch sandwich. Maybe it should just be a dessert sandwich. It doesn't taste as good on anything else than wonder bread!
As a kid I lived on PB and fluff on Wonder bread. So soft and squishy.
Toasted bread with ham & melted cheese.
I just ate it straight up! Love, love, love Wonder Bread. Yes, I should get that for April, too, who is lactose intolerant. I worry about her not getting enough Calcium, too. Wonder Bread straight up, while I was watching my Mom and Dad's home movies, while I was watching The Brady Bunch and Family Affair - yes, I remember it all.

Wonder Bread is ideal for 2 kinds of sandwiches. 1st, your everyday PB and banana sandwhich. YUM. But 2nd is my fav, the leftover Thanksgiving sandwich. Wonderbread, mayo, turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce, all smooshed together and heated in the microwave for 20 secs. It's my FAVORITE sandwich of all time.
I LOVE fresh tomato, mayo, and cheese sandwiches in the summer!!!! They are messy and yummy!!! They taste like summer. AND they only taste good on white bread.
My son Cullen (almost 13 years-old) is addicted to peanut butter, Simply Fruit blackberry, and cayenne pepper sandwiches (again on white bread). You seriously have to try it!!!
Kieren is only happy with real butter on white bread. She isn't really into food.
Sam @ Just Keep Swimming
FREE FOOD? REALLY?
I'm graduating from college in May, and Free Necessities sound like a dream come true!
I like cheese/lettuce/tomato sandwiches, all though these days I have been tending more toward swiss/bell peppers/olives/tomatoes.
Delicious, I tell you!
Oh gosh! Wonder bread has been around forever! Love them!!!
However, when it comes to sandwiches around here, the favorite is turkey and swiss cheese!
Butter up 2 slices of Wonder bread, and add a fried egg and a squirt of ketchup. Our family favorite.

I always enjoy a good peanut butter and honey sandwich. Still a kid at heart I guess.
Wonder Bread with PB&J or cinammon toast!!
Love the video - your girls are so cute!
My daughter prefers peanut butter and jelly. No grape jelly, though. Either strawberry jam or a mixed-fruit jam.
With plain white wonder bread, I would personally prefer cinnamon toast or pimiento cheese.
Grilled cheese.
Toasted peanut butter sandwiches are the best!
Oh, my. Haven't had it in years, but as a child, my favorite sandwich was fried bologna.
Wonder bread is my husband's favorite. We love peanut butter and jelly.
We're a sandwich family, and love Wonder Bread! Our faves are Peanut butter & banana & good old PB & J!
I had two favorite sandwiches to make with white bread as a kid. Well, the first one is a real sandwich it was Wonder Bread, Oscar Meyer's bologna, and Kraft American cheese with a thin layer of Best Food Mayonnaise (no, I'm not getting paid to drop names, they just had to be these brands otherwise I could taste the difference). I also liked to make "sandwiches" of white bread with mayonnaise in between. Then I'd pull off a chunk and smash it between my fingers until it was a little dense bit and pop it in my mouth and eat. Yum. Haven't done either in a verrrrry long time.
BTW, you can reach me at cgwms [at] yahoo [dot] com if I win. Thanks for letting me recant a sweet memory.
Jasmine loves Wonderbread. She likes to crumple it up into a ball and stuff it in her mouth.
I've never given my kids wonderbread, but now I think I'll have try it out!
I guess I am just boring... I still love classic PB&J... especially on soft white bread. It always has to be strawberry jam and it is also best when the bread is toasted and the pb is starting to melt... yummy!
That has to be the cutest taste test ever. I liked the way Ro barely touched the spinach with her tongue, and I'm not sure Ree actually tasted the spinach at all - I guess the smell was enough.
I don't really eat sandwiches any more, but as a kid, I envied the kids who got tuna sandwiches, because I generally got bologna, which I didn't care for.
First the sandwich vote - for my 6 yr old it is nothing but lightly toasted Wonder Bread with PB!!
Now a suggestion if I may :
Cook 2 C. Rice in chicken stock per pkge directions. Saute lightly 1/2 sweet onion in olive oil, add to this 1 pkge Frozen spinach (squeeze out all water first) & add Salt & pepper to taste. Mix this with you completed rice...
THE ONLY WAY my child eats spinach! Goes well with Chicken, burgers, or pork chops.!
PBJ...peanutbutter on both sides of the bread, so the jelly won't squish through the bread making it turn all soggy and purple. And grape jelly. Only grape jelly.
PB and potato chip. Sounds odd but I love the sweet/salty combo with the crunch!
I love a BLT. It was the first thing I learned to "cook" as a kid, and it's still a favorite standard of mine for lunch.
My son and my favorite sandwich to make is grilled cheese. That paired with tomato soup is the BEST!
Personally a BLTCA (BLT with cheese and Avocado) but for Cass it must be jelly only!!
Kyndra
My favorite sandwiches as a kid were made on WonderBread! My mom used to make me a PB and Banana sandwich. That was, and probably still is, my fav!
Tuna or grilled cheese.
Mmmmmm Wonder bread!!
My favorite Wonder sandwich is a good old ham and cheese. Yummmmmmm
Stace
PB&J!

jedoggett@embarqmail.com
Mmm... peanut butter and marshmallow fluff!!
Banana and Nestle Quik (didn't have Hershey's Syrup and had to improvise) sandwiches.
Another favorite was cream cheese and jelly or peanut butter and marshmallow. I was always trying new things with Wonder Bread (I drew the line at liverwurst, though).
Wow! I love to eat PB & Strawberry Jam on Wonder Bread! loved the review!
peanut butter and banana sandwich- yum!!
Krista
We buy Wonder Bread made with whole grains for our daughter. She loves it, and I like that it's a whole grain bread.
While I enjoy a hearty bread as much as the next person, I still love a slices of fresh tomatoes on Wonder Bread with mayonnaise and salt. Mmmmm...love it!
Leftover meatloaf on 2 pieces of FRESH Wonderbread with Ketchup..nothing better:)
Love peanut butter sandwiches... but also can't resist a good ol' grilled cheese sandwich! My husband loves spicy buffalo chicken deli meat!
Tuna Salad made with the good mayo on Wonder Bread with a lot of crisp green lettuce and a cold glass of milk. Yummmy!
I remember as a kid we always got to have WonderBread at Grandma's...we never got that kind at our house so it was special.
And even better if it was toasted with butter and cinnamon and sugar!!
Toasted B.L.T..oh oh so good!
Kim Evans
My mom would make cherry jam, from our cherry tree, each summer. I was the only one who ate the stuff, as it was incredibly sweet.
So, I'd smother the bread with that cherry jam, as thick as I pleased!
I loved loved loved it!!
Snick :)
Oh man, nothing better than a PB&J on Wonder bread!!
Great video! Favorites would be grilled cheese!
Kathy jkcronauer@comcast.net
WE love Wonderbread. We love grilled cheese with pickles. Second would be ham and cheese, then PB&J
hmmm.. bread soo many good uses! In my case here, at the Toro house, I always loved Grilled Cheese my way: (2 slices of wonder bread, buttered on the outside, 2 slices of cheese, and mayo on the inside) Smack all that into a panini grill and i'm in HEAVEN! Jen might also post her idea of the best sandwich... but I still think mines the right choice!
I would say it has got to be fried bologna with ketchup...my girls love it too!
One of my fav sandwiches hands down has to be meatloaf (cold) with lots of butter - between 2 slices of soft, fresh white bread. Yum, oh yum - give me those carbs of white bread!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
csaestok@yahoo.com
Well I can Say I created a yummy creation a few months ago. It's 2 pieces of bread with mixed up mayo and tuna and a few GREEN olives, yes green olives.. I also put some EVOO and Black pepper. it's so YUMMY !!!

Some honey-smoked turkey slices, green-leaf lettuce, and tomato slices - yum!
Egg salad! Always buy Wonder when we make it. Love the comments the kids made-so funny!
What is the source of calcium in the bread?
That video is the cutest! Wow...something your girlies don't care for.
I'm a wonder bread fan but oh how I enjoy the bread you normally buy. Wish I could get it here.
Wow, a year's supply! That's awesome. My favorite hands down, is salami with american cheese, a little mayo and crunchy lettuce! Yummm!
I love turkey and colby jack cheese. With lots of mayo. Nice and healthy..:)
Peanut butter and jelly or Peanut Butter and Nutella!!!!
BLT, hands down! I have to agree with the girls on that yucky green stuff :)
PB&J, of course! :)
Cream cheese and grape jelly sandwiches, of course!
Love the girls' taste test!

Peanut butter and banana... still my favorite comfort food!
Every morning I make about 8 PB&J sandwiches for my 3 teenage boys and lovely daughter from China. That's about a loaf a day. PB&J is still the preferred sandwich!
Peanut butter and jelly, or tuna fish and pickles are both my favorite sandwiches.
However, sometimes I like peanut butter and pickles. (And no, I am not pregnant!!)
As a kid my favorite was what mom called a peanut butter fluff sandwich. Soft white bread with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff...yummy!
Love, love, love- bacon, sharp cheddar, tomato and spice mustard grilled sandwiches. Yum!

Good old ham and cheese! We love Wonder bread!
I'm probably way too old to be eating these, but my secret vice for lunch is a good ol' Fluffernutter (a peanut butter and Fluff sandwich). I never got to eat them when I was a kid, so maybe that's why I still love them?
Wonder bread takes me back to my childhood. My favorite as a kid was bologna and mayo on wonderbread. I love the way the bread sticks to the roof of your mouth.

My kid like their Wonder Bread with Peanut Butter and sliced bananas, just like I had when I was a kid.
grilled cheese of course :)
Most call it wierd and that's quiet alright, we love it anyway. What we love is rather a strange combination but I seriously think everyone should try it at least once. Two slices of fresh Wonder Bread, Peanut Butter on one slice, Mayo on the other. On the mayo side add a slice of cheese and a couple slices of ham. On the peanut butter side add another slice of cheese and some sliced banana. Slap the two sides together and enjoy with a glass of COLD milk. OH MY ... so very good!
PB&J!!!!!
My fav as a kid was PB & banana.
PB & J !!
But what I really love about wonder bread is that their 'sandwich size' bread is PERFECT for my kindergartener. Thanks Wonderbread- I buy this every week for my little guy :)
Fried balogna with catsup and cheese. A favorite growing up! Enjoyed the review and the information very much! Thanks, M3!

My favorite kind of sandwich is egg salad. Yum Yum!
There is a Wonder bread plant fairly close to our house. When you drive by, it smells HEAVENLY! Marissa loves to eat bread. Any carb is great as far as she is concerned. It's interesting to learn that Wonder bread has so much calcium.
Sticking to the classic - PB&J. Yum!
When I was a kid - pb&j. Now, hummus, cheese & veggies!
Claqssic PB & J, but has to be GRAPE jelly!
We make PB&J every day of this world. Why don't kids get tired of the same thing all the time? I thought we were the only ones making lots of PB&J, but I see so many others do, too. Maybe I need to invest in peanut farming..
Miracle Whip and hard salami if I'm feeling meaty.
or
Marshmallow Creme and Peanut Butter if I'm feeling sweet.
PB and J!

Wonder bread oh how I love it. The best comfort food known to me ( next to chocolate); take two fresh slices of bread, spoonful of creamy peanut butter, take a large scoop of the home made strawberry freezer jam( made by your 13 year old daughter with love) mix the pb and j together, spread out on one side of the bread. Top with the other slice of heaven (the bread) and totally enjoy the sandwich that makes you feel like a kid again.
Our family loves Ham and Cheese with potato chips in between.
growing up, it might have been salami. Now, I think it is grilled cheese, with a twist. I put thinly sliced bell peppers or onion and somtimes herbs or spices inside.
Hmmm, can't remember the last time I've had Wonder bread. I guess I always felt it was not as good for you, but I guess things have changed. I would love to give it another try with peanut butter and banana!

My husband and my 11-year old will only eat Wonder! PB&J is the best!
